CALB Inside | World’s First Vessel with Methanol Power, Transportation and Bunkering Sets Sail on Ocean Voyage

Recently, the Maya Cosulich — the world’s first chemical tanker integrating methanol dual-fuel propulsion, methanol transportation and methanol bunkering functions, invested and built by Italian shipowner Fratelli Cosulich — officially departed on its maiden voyage.As the core supplier of the power system, CALB has custom-developed a high-performance, high-safety marine battery energy storage system, driving green and low-carbon operations.
The vessel has an overall length of approximately 102.6 meters, a moulded breadth of 19 meters, a deadweight tonnage of 7,990 DWT, and a cargo capacity of over 8,200 cubic meters. It is classed by RINA (Registro Italiano Navale, Italian Classification Society).
As the first Chinese power battery company certified by RINA and delivering shipboard battery systems for real vessels, CALB’s energy storage system operates in coordination with three methanol dual-fuel generators. The vessel adopts diesel-electric propulsion, and innovatively integrates the onboard battery energy storage system with two sets of high-precision mass flow meters.Its commissioning sets a new benchmark for global port emission reduction and the transition to green shipping.
